Another Samsung Infuse 4G Review

The Samsung Infuse is technically not a Galaxy line up smartphone, but it's so similar and follows in the footsteps of the AT&T Captivate that this review has to go on here. The Samsung Infuse 4G is AT&T's first foray into the 4G market. While it's not a true 4G LTE smartphone, AT&T is following in the footsteps of T-Mobile and calling their HSPA+ network, 4G. The Infuse is somewhat of a successor to AT&T's version of the Samsung Galaxy S, the Samsung Captivate. Featuring a beautiful large screen and a slim exterior, the Infuse hopes to capture the market that wants to move on to the next big smartphone.

The Samsung Infuse 4G has the usual candy bar design with a capacitive touchscreen display dominating the front but it takes it to a new level. The Infuse doesn't register as a large phone at first, but upon closer inspection, It has one of the largest displays currently available on a smartphone at 4.5 inches. That's a huge display for such a small device. The 4.5 inch capacitive display uses Samsung's Super AMOLED Plus screen, meaning the colors come out from the screen extremely vibrant and it also has an extremely wide viewing angle.

Beneath this behemoth of a display are the four familiar Android shortcuts for menu, home, back and search. Above the 4.5 inch display is a small front facing camera used for video chatting. Along the left edge resides the volume rocker, and along the right edge the power / lock key. The top edge holds the 3.5 mm headphone jack and the bottom edge has the microUSB. The Samsung Infuse 4G is one of the slimmest Android powered smartphones to be released on AT&T thanks to the fact that it uses a Super AMOLED Plus screen.

The Samsung Infuse 4G is powered by a powerful 1.2 GHz processor and is preloaded with Android 2.2 with TouchWiz UI. It's a bit of a disappointment that Android 2.3 isn't included with the device. It's also a disappointment that TouchWiz UI may be getting in the way of further Android updates as shown with the Samsung Captivate and the rest of the Galaxy S line up.

Beyond the inconvenience of the Infuse possibly not receiving the latest version of Android over the air, it's an easy to use device. New users can quickly become acclimated to the smartphone and there is very little training needed when it comes to figuring out how the smartphone works. People switching form a different Android device will only notice slight differences due to TouchWiz UI, but overall Android is a very easy to use operating system.

The Infuse is among the first smartphones to use AT&T's version of their HSPA+ network, which they've dubbed 4G. While other smartphones such as the Thunderbolt will use 4G LTE technology, the Infuse opts to use a slightly upgraded version of 3G networks. The Infuse also has a front facing camera to take advantage of the 4G technology, allowing for video chatting on the device. The other camera is the 8 megapixel camera, capable of taking high quality pictures and recording up to 720p videos, which is great for a higher end smartphone.

Overall the Samsung Infuse 4G is a fantastic follow up to AT&T's Captivate and another great step towards dominating the smartphone market. While some may find the larger phone polarizing, the beautiful display may quickly have them changing their minds.
