Samsung Galaxy S LTE Phone Appears!

In the U.S. market, Verizon Wireless has been making quite the power play for dominance of the 4G network.  With the recent announcement of their plans to roll out 4G at an amazing pace, it was only logical that LTE phones would follow suit.  Motorola and HTC both announced LTE capable handsets for Verizon, the dual core Etna and Thunderbolt respectively.  It seems Samsung has also thrown their name down into the hat, with the SCH-i520.

Next Generation Samsung Galaxy Tab Will Have Tegra 2?

It looks like Samsung has come to some sort of agreement with Nvidia and has ordered a sizable amount of Tegra 2 chips. It's being rumored that the next Samsung Galaxy Tab will use the Tegra 2 as it's processor. To note, Google has referenced Tegra as the design for Honeycomb, which all but confirms that the Galaxy Tab will have the Tegra 2. This is an interesting turn of events and one has to wonder if the current generation of Galaxy Tabs will be able to move on to Honeycomb or stay behind with a smartphone OS.

Samsung Galaxy S Runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)

Not surprisingly, the Samsung Galaxy S has been hacked into working with Android 2.3.  This is no surprise considering the newly released Samsung Nexus S is just a slightly redesigned Galaxy S with extremely similar hardware.  The wonderful hackers at XDA have taken the Nexus S rom and successfully ported over to the Galaxy S.  Though the port isn't 100% functional at the moment, one can only expect that it will be soon enough.  The WiFi and GPS currently do not work but the other features seem to be smooth and fine.

Video after the break.

Samsung Fascinate vs. Samsung Continuum

Verizon just recently released two Samsung Galaxy S phones in the span of 3 months.  The Samsung Fascinate and the Samsung Continuum are both Samsung Galaxy S phones exclusively at Verizon.  Both offer very similar technology, hardware and software and it's hard for people to determine which is better.  The similar price point doesn't help in the matter.  This Samsung Fascinate vs. Samsung Continuum article covers both phones and comes out with one victor.  Interesting read for those who are on the fence on which one to get.

Samsung Captivate for Free!

Radio Shack has been offering some great deals on items such as the iPhone and the Galaxy Tab and it looks like they've now brought in a Samsung Galaxy S phone in for a deal.  The AT&T Samsung Captivate will be available for a whopping $0, that's right, free, through Radio Shack if you sign up for a 2 year contract.  A voice plan of $39.99 and a $15 data plan are required but the phone itself is free.

That's a pretty sweet deal for a beautiful phone.

Next Samsung Galaxy Tab - Windows 7?

Multiple sources are reporting that Samsung is working on a 10 inch tablet with a slide out keyboard.  Currently code named the Samsung Gloria, it is expected to take an interesting shift, rather than going with Android, the Gloria looks to be pre-installed with Windows 7.  Though it's in the air on whether or not the Samsung Gloria will be a part of the Galaxy series, it's still a very interesting concept.

The Gloria will most likely not be its official name and may be a sign that Samsung may start another off-shoot of smartphones and tablets dedicated to Windows.  From the looks of the current environment there's always a chance that Samsung could pull in the old Omnia name and expand upon the Samsung Omnia 7.

Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Confirmed For Samsung Galaxy S

For users of the Samsung Galaxy S, Android 2.2 (Froyo) was just recently released officially.  Many have worried whether or not the Galaxy S would be receiving the next update, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).and the answer is here.  Samsung's Indian arm confirmed via Twitter post that the Samsung Galaxy S would be receiving Android 2.3.

There's no hardware issues that are preventing the Samsung Galaxy S phones from receiving Android 2.3, only software related.  Samsung's proprietary TouchWiz UI 3.0 needs to be updated by Samsung to work with Android 2.3, which will be the main delay.  If you have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S, expect to find an Android 2.3 release much sooner for your Galaxy S.

Consumer Reports Ranks Samsung Galaxy S as Top Smartphone!

Hot off the heels of a Gartner report claiming Samsung as the #1 manufacturer of Android phones, now Consumer Reports rates the Samsung Galaxy S as the top smartphone in the U.S. market.  The Samsung Galaxy S was rated as the best device across all wireless carriers in the 2010 Consumer Reports ratings this week.

With the Nexus S now having been officially released, it definitely won't be long until the Samsung Galaxy S2 makes its debut.  One can only expect that Samsung will continue riding this wave as long as they keep up to date with the Android OS.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Sales Hit 1M!

The Samsung Galaxy Tab has officially sold 1 million units!  No easy feat considering the fact that the U.S. is still in a recession and with the heavy competition of the iPad.  The Apple iPad sold 1 million in one month, which is impressive, but it looks like there's still room out there in the market for a 7 inch Android powered tablet.

This is great news considering Samsung was ranked as the #1 Android manufacturer by Gartner recently.  It looks like the Korean juggernaut is not planning to stop.

Samsung Epic 4G Goes Froyo!

The Samsung Epic 4G, available from Sprint, has officially been getting the over the air (OTA) update for Android 2.2, Froyo.  This marks the Samsung Epic 4G as being the first Samsung Galaxy S phone to receive this update.  The Samsung Vibrant, Samsung Captivate and Samsung Fascinate are all still awaiting updates of when they'll be updated to Android 2.2.

T-Mobile UK - Android 2.2 Delayed

Samsung Galaxy S users in Europe are most certainly outraged. On November 30th, T-Mobile made an official announcement stating that an over the air update would be available for the Samsung Galaxy S. The Android 2.2 OTA was being researched and was supposed to be released at the end of last month.

If OTA was not possible, T-Mobile announced that it would be available separately. It looks like neither of these promises were made and it looks like the Samsung Galaxy S has yet to get the official Android 2.2 update. T-Mobile made a new announcement, stating that the update would be available next week.

Samsung - Ranked 1st for Android Manufacturer!

The crowned king of Android, Motorola, has lost it's throne.  According to Gartner, a new company has taken the throne and crown, and that company is Samsung!  Samsung was responsible for selling 32.1 percent of all Android smartphones in the United States in the 3rd quarter.  That's a 300 percent increase over the fourth quarter of 2009!

This spike in sales is most attributed to the Samsung Galaxy S phones.  Taking on a smart approach by launching various versions of the Samsung Galaxy S across all six carriers, Samsung has sold three million Galaxy S phones since mid-July.

What about the rest of the competition?   The top 4 are right after the break.
